Year Four

Welcome to the Year 4 page. We have lots of interesting things that we will be learning about this half term.

Homework will continue to be given out every Monday to be completed and handed in by Friday. Logins for any websites, such as TTRS will be stuck in the back of the children’s homework book and in their home/school diaries. When they bring their homework in on a Friday their name gets put into a draw and one lucky winner wins a prize. Alongside the weekly homework we also look forward to seeing the tasks pupils complete from their Homework Grid. Pupils choose at least 4 of the tasks to complete over the term, and they are a great opportunity to show creativity and independent learning. Please listen to your child read a minimum of four times a week and record this in the home school diary. Reading books and home/school diaries should be brought into school every day. Pupils who read regularly at home will be considered for the weekly Reading Award and will get a certificate in assembly to celebrate.

In Maths this term we will be focusing on money, as well as shape, space and measure.

We will be having a big focus on times tables in preparation for the tests in June.

You can help: Practice times tables at home in preparation for the times table check at the end of the year.

In English this term, we will be using Europe and the idea of succeeding in our ‘hopes and dreams’ as a stimulus for our writing. We will be reading quality texts such as ‘A kid in my class’ and ‘A walk in Paris’ to support our writing. The genres of writing that we will be focussing on are poetry, informative writing, instructional writing and writing to persuade.

You can help: Reading is a vital skill that underpins all learning throughout your child’s school journey. Please ensure that you are supporting your child through reading at home and asking them questions to check their understanding.

Humanities and Science:

This term we are learning all about Europe. We will be learning the names of the countries and their capital cities, as well as investigating the similarities and differences between their geographical features. We will be conducting an in-depth study, comparing the North West of England with a contrasting region in France.

We will also be studying Electricity – focussing on how circuits are made and what factors can affect whether a circuit is successful or not.

You can help: Please compete at least 4 homework grid tasks.
